The Authority is dedicated to an airport operating environment that minimizes exposure to hazards and ensures continuous safety improvement. The Authority encourages participation from its management staff, employees, airlines, tenants, business partners, and the traveling public in the reporting of hazardous conditions, incidents, and accidents. The leadership staff of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority will provide the necessary policy direction and resources and promote the necessary culture to enable a successful Safety Management System (SMS).

- Policy - The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority is committed to the safety of the public, its management staff, employees, airlines, tenants, and business partners. Safety is the Authority’s highest priority, and as such, the Authority will ensure a safe environment to the fullest extent reasonably expected through the implementation, administration, and execution of a Safety Management System (SMS).
- Risk Management - The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority conducts safety risk assessments to identify hazards and form mitigating tactics. This process allows hazards to be identified before an accident occurs. Safety risk assessments are conducted when construction or maintenance could have a heavy operational impact, a new tenant or airline is introduced, a known new hazard is proposed, following any accident/incident or a change in operation or major equipment introduction, when key performance indicators are outside of the acceptable limits, and whenever FWACAA leadership deems it necessary. The process is truly the core of the Safety Management System Program.
- Safety Assurance - The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority ensures the effectiveness of the Safety Management System Program by monitoring mitigating tactics to ensure they are achieving their intended goal. FWACAA staff performs various safety audits throughout the year on a number of functions within the organization. This not only allows for us to determine if mitigations are working, but also aids in identifying if additional measures need to be taken to increase safety.
- Safety Promotion - The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority promotes a positive safety culture in which safety is the first priority. Employees, airlines, tenants, business partners, and the traveling public are encouraged to report safety hazards or discrepancies. Reported discrepancies are reviewed by the safety committee and mitigating strategies are formed when needed.
