Fort Wayne International Airport Prepares for Spring Break Travel, Is Ready for Larger Travel Demand

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) is preparing for a busy Spring Break travel season. While many area colleges have begun their Spring Break celebrations, FWA focuses spring break activities on area school district breaks. This year, FWA will be hosting in-terminal Spring Break celebrations beginning Monday, March 25 through Friday, April 5.

To celebrate Spring Break, FWA is planning a number of in-terminal activities with a beach party at the airport. Passengers won’t have to wait until they arrive at their destination to start their vacation. While we can’t bring the actual beach here, the airport will have beach-themed swag, activities, and treats for passengers to enjoy. The airport will also be decorated with beach-like backdrops, surfboards, beach balls and balloons. Airport employees will get in on the fun too by wearing Hawaiian shirts when out and about in the terminal.

While Spring Break fun is on its way, the airport also wants to remind passengers and guests that this time of year is always particularly busy at FWA. With that, passenger traffic has been even better than anticipated so far in 2024 – with February 2024 traffic up 15% over 2023. Passengers are asked to arrive in plenty of time to check-in for their flight and make it through security.

Passengers that have been to FWA recently have likely noticed that the parking lots are getting fuller than is usual for this time of year. With heavy traffic anticipated during the Spring Break period, it is anticipated that parking lots may be very full at times. Airport staff has a plan in place to incorporate additional parking, in addition to the airport’s normal parking lots, that will open if it appears that FWA is approaching parking capacity. FWA staff has worked quickly to identify parking solutions, and the airport is confident in being able to provide a great parking experience during Spring Break at FWA.

“We always look forward to welcoming passengers traveling for Spring Break and are happy to offer a fun way to thank them for choosing FWA during the Spring Break season.” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports. “While we anticipate an even bigger crowd for Spring Break travel this year, we are more than prepared to meet the travel demand.”

FWA’s Spring Break celebrations will run from Monday, March 25 to Friday, April 5. Times, activities, and availability vary each day.
