Fort Wayne International Airport Celebrates Zero Discrepancies for NINTH Consecutive Year

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) has now gone nine years without any discrepancies in its annual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspection. The most recent annual certification inspection took place March 15-16, 2023, and was administered by the FAA Great Lakes Region Airport Certification and Safety Office.

FWA passed the most recent FAA Part 139 annual inspection after three days of virtual records inspections and two days of an on-site inspector thoroughly examining all areas of airport operations. These inspections include all airport campus work centers, public safety performance, record keeping, and much more. This year marks nine consecutive years of inspections with no discrepancies found at the airport – a feat that is rare for airports of any size to accomplish.

“The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority staff works very hard to make sure that we provide a safe and efficient airfield for all aircraft operators as well as our passengers. Our team also works diligently to maintain a top-notch airport facility for the Northeast Indiana community. Nine years with zero discrepancies is an accomplishment that not many airports can claim, and every Airport Authority employee should be proud of that.” said Scott Hinderman, Executive Director of Airports.

The comprehensive inspection is administered by a representative of the FAA and reviews all areas of airport operations. Receiving a discrepancy typically results in a letter of correction and indicates that the airport may have specific areas within their operations that need reevaluated and addressed for regulatory compliance.

Following the completion of the inspection, Airport Authority leadership was debriefed and given feedback collected throughout the process. The FAA, which is a division of the United States Department of Transportation, commended FWA for maintaining a clean, and organized campus, as well as the airport’s attention to detail in being a safe and efficiently ran operation.
