Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA) and the Grand Wayne Convention Center, along with the WindSwell Foundation have officially launched GoodMaps, an innovative navigation technology designed to make navigating public spaces easier and more accessible for everyone.

The new technology is now available for use for visitors to both FWA and the Grand Wayne Convention Center – giving travelers, visitors, and community members another tool to independently and confidently navigate two of our community’s most highly visited public facilities. Those wanting to access GoodMaps in each facility can utilize the GoodMaps mobile app for easy navigation.

GoodMaps uses precise indoor mapping technology and accessible wayfinding to provide users with real-time, turn-by-turn, directions through their mobile device. Similar to navigation tools people use when traveling outdoors, GoodMaps brings that experience inside, helping users identify their location, navigate to their destination within a facility, and better understand the environment around them. This technology is designed with accessibility at its core and offers a valuable resource for individuals who are blind or have vision impairments.

“We are thrilled to bring GoodMaps to the Fort Wayne community along with the Grand Wayne Convention Center,” said Scott Hinderman, Chief Executive Officer of the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority. “Fort Wayne International Airport is committed to providing an accessible travel experience for all passengers, as shown throughout our recently completed terminal expansion project. GoodMaps is another way we can give passengers confidence and independence throughout their journey, while continuing to make FWA an accessible and inclusive front door to Northeast Indiana.”

The launch of GoodMaps builds upon ongoing accessibility efforts throughout the Fort Wayne community and reflects a shared interest among community partners to create the best experience possible for visitors and residents alike. The collaboration between FWA and the Grand Wayne Convention Center emphasizes this.

“The Grand Wayne Convention Center focuses on bringing the best possible hospitality experience for convention guests, and community members,” said Bart Shaw, Executive Director of the Grand Wayne Convention Center. “It is important that we also create an accessible and inclusive experience for all that walk through the Grand Wayne doors, so we can continue to position our community as a first in-class destination for events of all types.”

The adoption of GoodMaps technology by both facilities was made possible through a grant from the WindSwell Foundation, whose mission is to support children and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities live as independently as possible, be included and involved in the community and to live their life to the fullest. According to WindSwell Chief Executive Officer, Patti Hays, GoodMaps is a benefit to all.

“GoodMaps is the model of Universal Design. In creating an app for people who are visually impaired to navigate a space where they can’t read the signage, they’ve built a tool that benefits even more people. Someone with an intellectual disability, sensory processing disorders, English as a second language, or those anxious to approach new spaces, all can benefit from this app. WindSwell Foundation thanks Grand Wayne Convention Center and Fort Wayne Airport for serving as a model to the community in creating a truly inclusive and welcoming environment for all."

Representatives from FWA, the Grand Wayne Convention Center, WindSwell Foundation, and GoodMaps gathered today, Wednesday, September 9, 2026, to officially celebrate the launch and demonstrate the GoodMaps technology. Attendees were able to hear from Kevin Kline, Community Engagement Representative at GoodMaps and learn about the impacts accessible indoor navigation can have for users.

GoodMaps is available to users at FWA and the Grand Wayne Convention Center through the GoodMaps mobile app. Visitors can easily download the app to access supported locations. GoodMaps will also be accessible on the Fort Wayne International Airport website.
